UNIVPM

Role in the project

The UNIVPM is formally involved with the project through the D3A and SIMAU. Since the project is focused on sealed soil regeneration, the competencies and experiences in soil research are relevant to the REUSES project. Specifically, the group has expertise in urban soils since it was involved in the risk assessment evaluation of pollutants in the Ancona city.

The Department of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences (D3A), former Faculty of Agriculture, is a teaching and research public institution, belonging to the Polytechnic University of Marche, that manages activities related to agriculture, food, environment, and forestry. It was founded in July 2012 and in its current configuration, the D3A also includes the Botanical Garden “Selva di Gallignano”, the Interdepartmental Centre for Landscape Research (CIRP), and the Educational-Experimental Agricultural Farm “Pasquale Rosati”. The Department is involved in various activities such as agronomy, agro-engineering and territory, biochemistry, plant and forest biology, chemistry, tree crops, agricultural genetics, plant pathology, agricultural entomology, food microbiology, industrial and environmental, economic sciences in agricultural and territorial systems, physical sciences, food sciences and technologies, soil sciences, and animal production.

The Department of Materials, Environmental and Urban Engineering Sciences (SIMAU), established in July 2011, aims to create a structure where diverse expertise converges to offer advanced teaching and high-level international research in the fields of materials science and engineering and environmental science. The faculty members come from various cultural backgrounds, ranging from Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Sciences to materials, territorial, and environmental engineering. The Department is organized into cultural areas that include Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Geotechnics, Materials Science and Technology, Environmental Chemical Engineering, Urban Planning, and Socio-Economic studies. Research is supported by advanced laboratories and infrastructure, enabling both fundamental and applied activities, as well as services for public and private entities at regional and national levels. SIMAU focuses on innovative materials, sustainable management of natural resources, environmental recovery and conservation, and the protection of artistic heritage and engineering works. Researchers collaborate with universities, agencies, and research institutes, participating in national and international programs, with particular attention to technology transfer and collaboration with the local community and socio-economic environment.
